Would you like to have go at bookbinding?
Come along to the Bell House print Room and bindery and spend the afternoon with Tania and Simon. This is a taster session suitable to anyone who can thread a needle and handle a craft knife! No experience required. All materials and equipment supplied. * This taster session is designed to introduce you to Coptic binding which was used by early Christians in Egypt (The Copts) as early as the 2nd century. This is an exposed stitch style of binding using chain and link stitches to bind several sections of a book and the covers together. These make great sketch books as the open flat. At this workshop you will take home one Coptic bound book (more if you get the hang of it!) and the skills to build on at future workshops and work on at home. We will be holding these workshops in the Bell House Print Room and Bindery where we will be using materials and equipment kindly donated to us from Dulwich College and The London Library. Space is limited so book fast. These are probably the smallest book binding classes ever! ONLY 4 places available for lots of one to one focus time. We will most definitely be needing a break so either bring along a sarnie or we can refuel on some biccies for half an hour. *should you wish, feel free to bring along any papers that you have printed or you would like to use for the covers. Remember this is experimental so don’t bring anything along that is TOO precious. If time allows you will also be able to have a go at printing your own book plate on one of our vintage letterpress machines.
