Ceramic Art and Life
Join us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE, one of UK’s leading potters, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades - works that range from the everyday to rites of passage.
Julian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024.
He has exhibited internationally since 1982, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A, British Museum, American Museum of Art & Design, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more. Recent solo exhibitions include Art, Death and the Afterlife (Sainsbury Centre, Norwich 2023), Equivalenze (Fondazione ICA Milano 2019), and Quotidian (Corvi-Mora Gallery, London 2014-15).
