A two-day beginners sewing workshop to get you started making your own clothes at home!

This course is aimed at complete beginners. In the first session you will get to grips with using a sewing machine and make a pin cushion and bag. In the second session you will make a versatile skirt using your own measurements.

What’s unique about this course is that we invite you to come in pairs! One young person (age 10+) and one adult. It’s a chance for you to work on your own projects but together and in a friendly group setting.

Ticket price includes one young person and one adult. Book one ticket per pair.

What will be covered:

  • Using a sewing machine (don’t worry if you’ve never used one before!)
  • Taking measurements
  • Choosing the right fabrics for your project
  • Advice for choosing patterns
  • Cutting out fabric
  • Sewing a pin cushion, small drawstring bag and a garment

What will be provided:

  • Fabric for your pin cushion and bag
  • Instructions for making your skirt
  • All equipment

What you will need to provide:

  • Fabric for your garment (between 1 - 2 metres, depending on size)
  • Matching thread

Note: Please do not buy your fabric or thread until we have discussed suitable options in the first session

Amy’s background is in community engagement, working on projects across London in schools, gardens, parks and historic houses. It’s no exaggeration to say that her life was changed back in 2020 when a friend taught her how to sew a simple top - a whole new world of creative fun opened up! From then on she’s been making her own clothes and dreaming up textiles projects to share with others.

There’s nothing Amy enjoys more than helping others to start their own sewing journey. It’s her belief that everyone just needs that one friend to sit with them, teach them the basics and then they’ll be off!
