Beginners Garment Making - 1 Day Workshop

Sat 11 Oct 2025 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM BST Bell House, SE21 7BG

Join us this autumn at Bell House and learn the skills to start sewing your own clothes at home!

For this project we will be making a very beginner friendly and super useful apron. The group size for the workshop is limited to 6, so you’ll be able to grow your confidence and ask as many questions as you need in a friendly environment.

This course is suitable for complete beginners. We will spend the first part of the day getting to grips with the sewing machine and making a handy pin cushion. Once equipped with these new skills we’ll move on to making our aprons!

How to prepare for the weekend:

We will email you in advance of the session with information regarding fabrics. You will then need to purchase/source your fabric and thread and bring it with you to the workshop.

About the pattern

The pattern we will be using for this course is the ‘Sam Apron’ by indie designer Helen’s Closet. This apron is customisable, multi-functional and a great beginners project!

The pattern is suitable for all heights and sizes.

Amy’s background is in community engagement, working on projects across London in schools, gardens, parks and historic houses. It’s no exaggeration to say that her life was changed back in 2020 when a friend taught her how to sew a simple top - a whole new world of creative fun opened up! From then on she’s been making her own clothes and dreaming up textiles projects to share with others.

There’s nothing Amy enjoys more than helping others to start their own sewing journey. It’s her belief that everyone just needs that one friend to sit with them, teach them the basics and then they’ll be off!
