The Japanese art of “Suminagashi” or “Ink Floating” dates back as early as the 12th Century. It involves floating inks onto water to create marbled patterns on paper or fabric. Japanese Masters would elevate this simple process to a mindful and meditative artform, spending years learning the control of ink, water tension and intricate pattern manipulation.
But the basics are easy to learn, great fun and you will produce beautiful unique prints both on paper and on fabric in this class.
No experience necessary and all materials and refreshments will be provided. But please bring an apron!
About the Artists/Workshop Leader:
The session will be run by Sarah Wetherall, a local artist who has many years of experience running art workshops, activities and events for a range of diverse groups of all ages. She worked at Dulwich Picture Gallery for over 10 years – during her time there she developed a particular interest in the link between creativity, health and well-being. This lies at the heart of all her classes.
