Would you like to have go at bookbinding?
Come and start the new academic year in our Print Room & Bindery. Your day will be led by Tania Hurt-Newton, the Creative Director of the Print Room & Bindery and a graphic designer, bookbinder and print maker. Tania will introduce you to the fundamentals of bookbinding.
You will start by making two simple pamphlet books using two different stitching techniques. You then progress to making two single section hardback books using the stitching techniques learned in the first part of the workshop. You will go home with four books - not bad for one day!
Cost including all materials £80
This is a taster session suitable to anyone who can thread a needle and handle a craft knife and will introduce you to basic skills that you can build on at future workshops and work on at home. Tania will have already prepared all the materials you need, trimmed to size for an efficient speed of working.
Space is limited so book fast. These are probably the smallest book binding classes ever! ONLY 4 places available for lots of one-to-one focus time.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tania in advance by email: tania@bellhouse.co.uk
ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED.
PLEASE NOTE this workshop is unsuitable for under 16s and sharp equipment is used.
There is a chance of over-running so please allow some extra time at the end of the day. It’s a hands-on workshop not a fashion parade. You might get inky! And bring an extra layer as the basement can get chilly. You will most definitely be needing a break so either bring along a sarnie or we can refuel on some biccies for half an hour.
Due to the basement location of the Print Room and Bindery, we regret we cannot offer access to wheelchair users.
These workshops are held in the Bell House Lottery Room. We will be using materials and equipment kindly donated to us from Dulwich College, The London Library, The Heritage Lottery Fund and others.
