Multiple dates and times Bell House Pottery, SE21 7BG

Available dates:

All courses are on a Tuesday evening and last for 5 weeks. Cost is £200.

  • Starting 27 Feb, 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm


During the weekly 2-hour sessions:

  • Beginners will have a first go at centering clay on the wheel, throwing cylinders and bowls.
  • More advanced students will learn how to throw bigger and more challenging shapes.
  • You will also learn how to finish your pots and how to glaze them.
  • You can keep up to six pots which will be fired for you at the end of this course. The cost of all materials and firings are included in your course fee.

Please note:

  • This course is for adults, over 18. Separate courses will be available for the 11-18 age group.
  • Throwing on the wheel can be a messy business and aprons will not be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing.

About the teacher: Joanna Szwej-Hawkin

  • This course will be led by Joanna Szwej-Hawkin
  • Joanna works from her studio in Nunhead. Where her decorative and functional pieces are thrown and slab-built in earthenware or stoneware clay.
  • To achieve a distressed look, she applies layers of different coloured slips, decorates them with bespoke photocopied transfers and ready-made decals.
  • She makes limited editions and one-off pieces.
  • Member of London Potters since 2019.
