Hand building workshop with Rowena Hamilton - potter-in-residence at the Bell House Pottery

Meet Rowena and find out about her interests and work

This 2.5-hour workshop is suitable for beginners and potters at any level who would like to spend a mindful evening hand-building with soft slabs and moulds.

• You’ll learn about Rowena’s work and find out about one of her signature items - patterned clay rattles with decoration inspired by archaeology and anthropology
  
• You’ll find texture and objects from nature and the built environment and explore ways to incorporate these into textured clay slabs.
• You’ll learn the technique of press moulding and use it to make a textured clay rattle or shaker
• At the end of the session, you can pick two of your favourite pieces which will be glazed and fired for you.
• The cost of all materials and firing are included in your course fee.
• This session is for 18+ only.

• Tickets cost £30 per session; £15 concessions 
• The course is 2.5 hours long.
• The course will run 6pm – 8.30pm on 28^th August 2025

About Rowena Hamilton - first ever potter-in-residence at the Bell House Pottery

• Rowena is based in the Peak District in Derbyshire. Since graduating from Clay College in August 2024, she has been making functional and decorative pots on the wheel with some hand-built elements. Her work uses found objects and textures, referencing archaeology and anthropology. 
• This August, she will be the first potter to take up a summer residency at Bell House Pottery. During the residency she’ll research and develop new shapes, combining forms and textures from basketry and other found materials.
• Rowena teaches hand-building at High Peak Heritage Crafts Hub and gives one-to-one throwing and hand-building lessons from her home studio in Derbyshire.
