Gloucestershire B Local is hosting a best practice webinar on making sense of sustainable money.

How can money help tackle climate change, support nature and create a fairer economy? And who decides where that money goes?

This introductory webinar will explain how sustainable finance works in simple terms, giving you an overview of the UK's sustainable money ecosystem and the organisations, policies and ideas shaping it.

During the session, we'll cover:

  • What sustainable finance is and why it matters.
  • How the UK government is encouraging investment in a greener future.
  • The rules designed to help people identify genuinely sustainable financial products and reduce "greenwashing".
  • The role of investors, businesses and financial professionals in driving change.
  • Why some experts believe the current system isn't going far enough, and what a more sustainable financial system could look like.
  • What practical steps you can take to ensure your money is being used for a sustainable future

Whether you're interested in sustainability, work in business, or simply want to understand how money can be a force for good, this webinar will provide an engaging introduction to the topic.

The presenters

Sebastian Elwell is a Chartered Financial Planner and director of B Corp Switchfoot Wealth Limited and co-chair of B Local Surrey. He was recognised by his professional body ‘The Personal Finance Society’ (PFS) as their Retirement and Later Life Advice Specialist of the year in 2020. This afforded an opportunity to attempt some system change in the financial planning profession and Seb went on to publish ‘Sustainable Financial Planning’ a methodology that is recognised by the PFS as a model of best practice. He now sits on the PFS Sustainable Advice Panel and has been appointed to the Adviser Sustainability Group (ASG) which has been commissioned by the Financial Conduct Authority to provide best practice guidance to the industry.

Nick Stoop spent ten years at the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock. He was a member of the Global Client Group servicing private wealth clients across the Middle East and Asia. Nick started investing his personal savings in 2013 into positively impactful listed businesses. On returning to the UK, he set about building a dedicated sustainable pension solution; launching Pangea in 2022 and becoming its first client. Pangea has since established the UK's first sustainable default workplace pension solution, is a B Corp and has been onboarding its first cohort of corporate clients in March 2026

With one eye on the new B Corp certification standards, both Sebastian and Nick are working with the B Corp Finance & Investment Circle to help develop and co-ordinate collective action on this topic.
