This 1 day navigation course will give you the skills and confidence to get out and explore on your own or with family and friends. It is designed for beginners who want to be able to use a map confidently in the outdoors, plan your own walks and follow paths and other linear features.

– You will learn to understand the fundamentals of reading maps, including how to use symbols, scales and handrail features like roads and walls to guide you along the route.

– You will be able to orientate your map enabling you to ‘read’ the land around you.

– To avoid getting lost, you’ll also learn the fundamentals of using a compass as well as how to pair it with a map.

– You will also learn how to create your own routes away from the crowds.

We will meet at the cafe at Carding Mill Valley where there is a brief welcome & classroom session before heading out and we will also make time for a drink to review the day’s events before we finish.

There are public toilets available. 

Parking:

You will need to pay for parking, I believe this is £5 per day, unless you are a National Trust Member where this is free.
