Silver Screens: Exploring the Past, Present and Future of Cinemagoing with BFI Replay and Flatpack

Mon 2 Feb 2026 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM Library of Birmingham, Centenary Square, Broad Street, B1 2ND

Viva Cinema! Join the British Film Institute (BFI) and Flatpack Festival at the Library of Birmingham for an afternoon delving into the past, present and future of cinemagoing.

Using a selection of archival video clips from BFI Replay as a springboard, we will explore the history of the cinema as an architectural icon, cultural phenomenon and haven for starry-eyed film fans, before discussing the current landscape of film exhibition, and the integral role that the cinema has to play in our local communities and society at large.

Come along ready to enjoy, discuss, and share your thoughts. Please reserve your free space via the booking link.

BFI Replay is a free-to-access, digital archive uncovering stories from across the UK, its history and its people.
