The “Fifth Wave” refers to universities that transcend traditional roles of education and research to become catalysts for societal transformation and global problem solving - Ben-Gurion University is Israel’s “Fifth Wave University” .

Although founded to be, in David Ben-Gurion’s words, an “Oxford in the desert”, BGU has never striven to be an ivory tower. On the contrary, BGU is the driving force in the Negev’s development and key to its residents’ social mobility. The new urgency since the catastrophic events of October 7th, 2023 demands a still bolder commitment to the young adults of the Negev and access to higher education.

Funds raised will support:

• Recruitment, financial assistance, mentoring and academic support for students of Ethiopian heritage
• Financial assistance, pre-academic programs and mentoring for first generation students (whose parents do not have university degrees)
• Financial assistance, special integration programming and mentorship for new immigrant students
• Financial assistance and mentorship for students from the Bedouin community
