Managing Difficult Conversations- BHS Welfare Volunteer CPD

Come and join us for a session looking at the some of the difficult conversations we have during welfare concern visits and when educating owners to improve welfare.

The talk will include discussions on:

• Effective communication with horse owners
• Discussions around weight management
• Encouraging owners to do "more than the minimum"
• Updating on modern practices vs traditions/myths
• Seasonal welfare issues (eg. ragwort, water, forage)
• Rider suitability

The session will be with Cathy Hyde (Horse Care & Welfare Field Officer for North West) who has years of experience working with a huge range of owners. Cathy has worked in frontline animal welfare for more than 20 years, initially with the RSPCA where she was a Chief Inspector and also led the Inspectorate Equine Team. Cathy is also Chair of the Rescue Equine Showing Society, a Show Judge and an formative part of the Welfare Stewarding movement and the Weigh to Win initiative which is now evident at some of the larger shows across the country. 

This will be hugely useful and open to BHS Welfare Volunteers only, so please attend if you can!
