Need help?
The BHS, OSS and Ramblers have joined forces to offer an in-person Restoring the Record training course in June 2025. It may be possible to deliver further sessions in September depending on demand.
The aim of the training event is to enthuse, enable and empower rights of way researchers to make applications for definitive map modification order to ensure routes that would be extinguished in 2031 are saved from the cut-off date. Although the government has said it intends to abandon the cut-off date, it has not yet repealed the provision; regardless of any cut-off date, the best way to protect unrecorded rights of way from obstruction, development or neglect is to research and make a DMMO application.
Learn how to identify historical routes and the key resources used to study them from two acknowledged experts in the field, Sarah Bucks and Dr Phil Wadey, co-authors of 'Rights of Way Restoring the Record'. Find out what your evidence can unlock and how to create a systematic research method to investigate your routes.
The day will run from 10am to 4pm. There is a £5 fee to book a place, with the aim of reducing the number of people who book but do not attend, and thus deprive others of the place. Those that attend on the day can chose to donate it towards the costs of running the event or to have it refunded.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available during the breaks. Please bring a packed lunch.
