EAAA/BHS Sponsored Ride 2026
We are delighted to be able to offer BHS Bedfordshire’s popular sponsored ride in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance and The British Horse Society, at Shuttleworth Park on Sunday 7th June.
The British Horse Society protects and improves safe off‑road riding routes across the country — including here in Bedfordshire. And East Anglian Air Ambulance comes to the aid of people in the most serious of medical emergencies, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. By taking part, you’re not just enjoying a good ride; you’re helping secure better off-road routes and urgent assistance when in an emergency. Net proceeds will be shared 50:50 between the two charities.
This year, we are offering different route options totalling approx. 9.5 miles, which creates various options for ride distances between 2.5 miles and 9.5 miles. You can choose which you do on the day.
A |
3 miles |
Northern part of parkland all within the estate on rolling grassland so may appeal to those who like a faster pace. |
B |
1.5 miles |
Circular extension to A with a manned road crossing – tracks, woodland then a field margin with panoramic view of Ickwell Bury estate. |
C |
2.5 miles |
Southern part of parkland but heading into the woodland part of the estate for a more leisurely pace. Recommended for leadreiners. Faster riders must pass with consideration. |
D |
2.5 miles |
Circular extension from C using public bridleways and private tracks plus a small section of road. |
Shuttleworth Park is located off the A1, about a mile west of Biggleswade, or off the A507, about 5 miles north of Shefford.
Tickets are £25 payable in advance. As this is a fundraising ride, we also ask for a minimum of £10 sponsorship but obviously we hope that many of you will raise much more! There will be trophies for anyone raising over £125. The net proceeds of the ride will be shared equally by the two vital charities.
Details of how to collect your sponsorship via JustGiving (and so claim gift aid if eligible) will be emailed to you. We ask you please to use JustGiving with fundraiser pages linked to the event as this will ensure that the sponsorship is trackable by the ride organiser who will ensure it is shared between the two charities. Please don't use other fundraising platforms as it will make the organiser's job even harder!
Rosettes for all, kindly sponsored by our event photographer, Place Images Photography and by Heather Stopher. Place Images’ photos will be available after the event via an online gallery. Rossdales will be the vet on call, we will have medical support on site and a caterer offering food and drinks.
Whilst there is no flying display at Shuttleworth on the day, there may be some light aircraft flights, and the runway is close to the parking area and the start of the ride. For this reason, horses MUST NOT be left unattended in the parking area and you should check in before unloading.
ALL HORSES MUST BE VACCINATED - minimum first two injections (at least 6 days before the event) or annual booster in up-to-date record. Random checks may be carried out.
BOOKING
Just click on the blue 'EAAA/BHS Sponsored Ride' button.
Starts will be within your chosen half hour window during the period 9.30am to 12.30pm but note that those starting after 11.30pm will not be able to do section B so will be a maximum of 8 miles. You will be offered the opportunity to buy tickets for a specific slot.
Maximum group size is 5 and you can buy 5 tickets at once BUT you will need a lot of information about the other riders:
- their email address (so we can send them information about the ride)
- the mobile number they will take on the ride
- age if under 18 and escort details if 16 or under (escorting on bike is permissible subject to conditions - please email ann.kennedy@bhsvolunteer.org.uk with BHS/EAAA in the subject line)
- their emergency contact details (not someone on the ride - someone we can call in the case of an accident)
- their 3rd party insurance provider (insurer name and policy number or BHS gold membership number)
- their vehicle registration number
- confirmation that their horse complies with the vaccination requirements
- their permission to agree to the privacy terms and terms and conditions on their behalf
So, it may be easier to book individually.
If your chosen time slot is shown as full but you wish to join a rider or riders who are already booked in that slot please email ann.kennedy@bhsvolunteer.org.uk with BHS/EAAA in the subject line and we will do our best to accommodate you.
ENTRIES CLOSE Monday 1st June 2026 at 11.45pm or when full if earlier.
No refunds will be offered unless it is cancelled by the BHS (full refund) or we are able to resell the place (£5 admin fee deducted).
