Membership of the BHS Ireland Greyabbey Toll Ride 2026/2027

Please read to the end of this information including the Code of Conduct and then complete the required joining information.
If you are a returning member you will need to return your current Toll Ride Hat Band.  You will be issued with a new Toll Ride Hat Band which will be a different colour and number.

All members will need to provide a selfie passport style photograph, current BHS Gold Membership number and expiry date.

British Horse Society Gold members have the exclusive opportunity to join the BHS Ireland Greyabbey Toll Ride and ride all year in this privately owned estate with access to a total of 6.5km of trails for just £50 per year (12 month period).

This year the Toll Ride Membership Year will commence on 1 March 2026.

The costs of membership for BHS Gold Members is as follows:-

Membership Fee from 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027 - £50

One-Off Hat Band Deposit - £10 (If you are unable to return your current hat band)

This trail has been purpose built for horse riders and with the increased dangers of riding on the roads provides a haven of peace and tranquillity.

About the BHS Ireland Greyabbey Estate Toll Ride

This is a privately owned property which is not open to the general public. The estate’s 6.5km BHS Ireland Toll Ride trail meanders through old farm tracks, across streams and through woods on a purpose built path. It takes you through a little river, across open fields, by a picturesque lake and includes breath-taking views of Strangford Lough.

Purpose built hard-standing parking is available with plenty of room to turn your lorry or trailer. We have even provided a mounting block.

This trail is open 1st March – 1st November, Monday to Saturday - 8.30am - 8.30pm or until dark (Sundays from noon).
And 1 November to end of February Monday to Friday from 8.30am during daylight hours and Sundays from noon  (subject to weather and ground conditions)
(The Toll Ride is closed during this period on Saturdays due to the shooting season being in progress in the estate).

BHS Ireland Greyabbey Toll Ride Membership Cautionary Notes and Code of Conduct

Working with the landowners we try to keep the Toll Ride trails clear for your use; however there may be times due to stormy or wet weather that the trail is obstructed. If you have concerns please let us know, and we will work as quickly as possible to resolve them for you.

2. As you know horse riding is a risk sport, please take full responsibility and care for the safety of you and your horse when accessing the Toll Ride.

3. We would also remind you to follow the Code of Conduct, as stated in your member’s agreement, a copy of which is below. This will help ensure continued access for us all to this lovely estate.

4. Please note that CCTV will be operational in the estate.

Toll Ride Opening Hours
1 March to 1 November 2026
The Toll Ride shall be open every day from between the hours of 8.30am to 8.30pm, or until dark - except Sundays when it shall open at 12.00pm.


1 November 2026 to 28 February 2027 - subject to weather and ground conditions

Monday to Friday 8.30am to dark,

Sundays from noon to dark

Closed on Saturdays – due to the shooting season in the estate.
(These dates and times may change as advised by Greyabbey Estate)

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct must be adhered to at all times.

  1. Please note your Toll Ride membership only permits your access to the estate and bringing non-members into the estate or sharing of hat bands will result in expulsion from the Toll Ride membership.
  2. Members must wear a current Toll Ride Hat Band and carry their current membership card at all times.
  3. Members must wear a properly fitted riding hat to a current approved standard and appropriate riding boots. – No Wellingtons are permitted.
  4. Members are advised to wear fluorescent gear, especially if hacking by road to the Toll Ride.
  5. Members under the age of 16 years are only permitted to ride on the Toll Ride in the company of an adult member.
  6. No dogs or walkers are permitted on the Toll Ride.
  7. On Sundays only we will ride in an anti-clockwise direction and all other days in a clockwise direction.
  8. The Society may close the trail due to adverse weather conditions, farming operations, obstructions or due to an event in the estate.
  9. Members must park in the car park provided and always leave it clean.
  10. Members must keep to designated trails and approved areas at all times.
  11. Members must go slower in areas of reduced visibility.
  12. Members must not ride on crops or poach up the surface.
  13. Members should ride slowly past livestock and wildlife.
  14. Members should leave gates as they find them.
  15. Members are advised to carry a mobile phone, hoof-pick and twine.
  16. Members must ensure tack is sound and properly fitted.
  17. Members must respect the Estate and take all litter home - follow the ethics of Leave No Trace
