Description
We are delighted to announce the launch of our Virtual Safeguarding Courses. These will replace our face-to-face courses.
These virtual courses are taught by Sport Scotland approved Safeguarding Presenters via Zoom. They are delivered to small groups of up to eight people and you will receive an e-certificate upon completion that is valid for three years. This course has also been endorsed by Horsescotland.
Full joining instructions will be sent by email.
The ‘British Equestrian’ Safeguarding for Equestrians Workshop outlines the roles and the responsibilities that we and other BEF member organisations have in our duty of care towards young people. It includes guidelines on protecting young people and promoting good practice within the Equine Industry.
This course needs to be updated every three years. It is suitable for those wishing to join the BHS Accredited Professionals and taking the BHS Assessments.
This course is only to be attended by those over 18 years of age that are volunteering, coaching or supporting under 18's in sport.
Children and young people are the future of the horse industry and any child who is involved should be able to participate in a fun and safe environment, and be protected from harm. There is no doubt that involvement with horses and ponies, be it in a sporting or leisure context, can have a very powerful and positive influence on young people.
British Equestrian (BEF) places the highest priority on safety and enjoyment; it recognises that it has a duty of care towards children within the horse industry. The Safeguarding for Equestrians workshop outlines the roles and responsibilities that The British Horse Society and other BEF member bodies have in their duty of care towards young people and promotes good practice within the horse industry.

In Scotland, the online renewal course is accessed using the below link on the sportscotland website.
Sportscotland is offering coaches and volunteers the opportunity to advance their learning in child wellbeing and protection in sport (CWPS), by giving access to renewal modules in various topics. Instead of just repeating CWPS training after 3 years, the learner can renew their certificate for another 3 years by completing a series of eLearning. This learning is then valid for another 3 years and it is only then that the learner must complete the whole training again.
