Temporary Information Posters for Private Land
Pass Slow and Wide Equestrian, Pedestrian and Cycling Signs
BHS Scotland and Police Scotland have been working together to gain permission to have temporary roads signs put up in targeted 'hot spot' areas throughout Scotland.
As a result of a Pilot Project partnership with British Horse Society and Police Scotland Tayside Roads Policing, BHS Scotland is pleased to announce the sale of our temporary information posters. These endorse the Highway Code Rules 163 and 215 which urges care when passing horse riders or horse drawn vehicles.
Background: these are called Temporary Information Posters (TIPs). Following four years’ experience of trying to create safe, successful and impactful road safety signage, we have learned that temporary information is important to capture drivers’ attention – and interspersing the messages for all vulnerable road users makes the project and education more impactful. A successful pilot has been run in Perthshire and Angus.
The placement of these signs requires obtaining landowner permission to place them on private land at locations where they can be safely and easily viewed from the road and they must be in areas where incidents have been recorded on the BHS Horse i app (https://www.bhs.org.uk/go-riding-and-learn/record-an-incident/incident-report-form/) - if the location has not yet been recorded on the horse i app, please do so before purchasing the signs.
Sign re-design: we have taken a multiuse approach and produced three new signs: one equestrian, one pedestrian and one cyclist - each with the relevant messages on from the Highway code. These can be switched around and interspersed to keep interest and maximise the message - they are designed to be temporary, educational and aiming to protect vulnerable road users. To have the maximum impact they need to carry the least amount of information.
The signs come in a pack of three - one for equestrians, one for cyclists and one for pedestrians.
Dimensions: Size A0 (841mm x 1189mm) approximately.
Cost: £90 - all 3 signs delivered to your preferred address in Scotland.
All tickets will be subject to a booking fee of 60p per ticket.
All transactions will be subject to a payment processing fee of 30p + 2.9% of your total check out price.
Important:
- These posters have to be placed on private land (within a boundary fence).
- They cannot be put on verges (as they form part of the road). These verges may still be owned by the landowner but it falls to then local authority to grant permission for placement.
- These posters cannot be attached to street furniture (such as sign posts already in place).
- Any posters placed out with private land could render the person responsible liable if an incident was to occur as a result of that poster.
- These posters are not exempt from planning permission (or Advertisement Consent) and as such guidance should be sought from your relevant local authority prior to placement to ensure they are placed legally.
