- Learners must have completed both modules of the Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Workshop (CWPS) or the BHS Safeguarding for Equestrians workshop.
- 18 years old and over.
Virtual Safeguarding Officer Course - SCOTLAND

Every sports club in Scotland is required to have a Safeguarding and Protection (S&P) Officer. The three-hour Child Well-Being and Protection Officer (CWPO) workshop will equip an S&P Officer with the tools to fulfil this role.
The workshop is suitable for individuals responsible for leading their club or centre in the wellbeing and protection of children and young people. Learners will have the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and skills in child wellbeing and protection and in managing concerns in their club or centre.
Who is this course for:
- Safeguarding officer in an affiliated British Riding Club
- Safeguarding officer in a BHS Approved Centre.
Please note that if you do not turn up to the course you will not receive a further free space to this course.
Spaces are also available at £25 for those not involved with a British Riding Club or BHS Centre.
Workshop Content:
A three hour face to face or virtual classroom workshop by an approved tutor. Subjects covered include legal duties, roles and responsibilities, practical procedures (including safe recruitment and selection of volunteers) and how to appropriately manage concerns. As well as exploring the relevant issues through discussion, the workshop offers practical advise, examples, resources and information about ongoing support available to sports clubs.
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
- Identify a framework for good safeguarding governance in a sports club/centre
- Identify the different safeguarding roles and responsibilities in a sports club/centre
- Confidently assess the suitability of adults to work with children and young people
- Respond effectively and with confidence to wellbeing and protection concerns that may arise in or out of the sporting environment
- Recognise ways in which club culture influences the wellbeing and protection of children and young people, and identify methods for effecting culture change in this important area.
