On Sunday 24 May, kids concept store Big & Belg and design hotel The Usual bring back the spirit of the block party with the first edition of The Family Block Party — an all-ages event where music, creativity, fashion and food come together under one roof.

Two Rotterdam favourites in design and family culture join forces at The Usual Rotterdam (Westblaak 10) for a feel-good day built around community, creativity and shared experiences.

Music, food & atmosphere

The soundtrack of the day comes from favourite DJ’s Jeremaine S, Doris Bae and Slick, bringing a mix of ’90s R&B and hip hop. Expect recognizable classics for parents and high-energy tracks that kids instantly connect with.
Food and drinks are taken care of throughout the day, with offerings from Chez Jan (hotdogs) and The Usual.

Creative workshops & stations

The Family Block Party is designed as an interactive experience where kids and parents can move, make and explore.

Bucket Drumming – Bennies Business
Led by Bennie Semil (co-founder of HiphopHuis), this energetic session introduces kids to rhythm, timing and collaboration using buckets and drumsticks. It’s all about expression, creativity and making music together.

Dance Workshop – Maya Trameh
Rotterdam-based dancer and maker Maya Trameh leads a dynamic session focused on movement, freedom and self-expression.

Upcycle Station – Nick Kailola (Leyp)
In this hands-on fashion workshop, old garments get a second life. Designer Nick Kailola guides participants through upcycling and restyling their own pieces.

All-day creative stations

Throughout the day, guests can freely move between different creative stations.
Arts & crafts, where kids can design their own fashion looks, and a glitter & tattoo station for a playful, festival-inspired touch.

Fashion & pop-ups

Big & Belg hosts a curated closet sale featuring pre-loved items from momfluencers including Sanne Poeze (@girlonkicks), Demi de Boer (@demideboer), Wayta Monzon (@waytamonzon) and Murel (@minimu).

A mini pop-up Big & Belg store will offer summer must-haves for kids and families.
