ECHO – two actors and an author improvising

Sun 5 Oct 2025 19:30 - 21:00 Artincelle, 1060

Authors often have a lonely job. They wander in their own thoughts and ideas. They spend a lot of time with the characters in their stories even before the story takes shape. They write down, discard, change, write down and change again.

Billy Kissa and Raschid Daniel Sidgi are trained actors and experienced improvisers. For the format ECHO, they need both of the skillsets, because in this show they react impulsively to written text. Written in the moment of the performance. Just as if they were the characters in a story, that is created right now in another person's head.  As if they were characters that come to life even before the final story has been written

ECHO is a constant inspiring exchange between characters and the person who invented them, without simply being "meta". ECHO becomes a game with the associations that written text triggers, a game with the improvised variants of a designed setting. ECHO is the handling and further development of vague ideas and concrete scraps of words... If you like, a glimpse into the creative process of inventing stories itself.

And maybe the question arises: Who actually writes whom? Do the author write the characters in a story, or is it perhaps the other way around?

To make each show unique, Billy Kissa and Raschid Daniel Sidgi work with a different author for each performance. In this show our author will be Philisiwe Twijnstra.
