Bioregional Story Maps - Initiating Session

Thu 6 Aug 2026 11:00 - 12:00 IST Online, Zoom

We hope you'll join us for an online, interactive session led by Sarah Prosser and Tasneem Khan.

Help us map the many layers of Ireland.

We'd like to build an interactive map of Ireland's bioregions - with you. This initiating session will introduce you to the vision and ideas so far. We'll share a concept board: the beginnings of how this could work, and how we'd like to use it together over the coming months. Then we'd like to hear from you!

What lens do you bring? What stories does your bioregion hold?

We invite you to become a map-maker with us - to bring a story of your bioregion through your unique lens. Your lens might be of geology, soil, waterways, fauna, or flora. It might be of people, culture, arts, heritage, institutions... All the layers are valuable.

You do not need any technical or artistic background. If you can point at a place and say this matters, and here's why, you already have the main skill required.

Many of you are already making beautiful maps. We offer this as a platform to home your maps within a larger scale.

Come with:

  • Maps that inspire you — screenshots, links, photos, a page torn from a book. Anything. Beautiful, strange, hand-drawn, digital, ancient, imaginary.
  • What you'd like to see emerge from your own region — the layer you wish to share.
  • Questions, doubts, and half-formed ideas. Especially those.

What is a Story Map? What is Bioregional Mapping?

Here are some inspiring examples of story maps from other bioregions:

Read more about bioregional mapping and see the kinds of layers that Bioregioning South East Ireland has been mapping.

Read about the O-Mapping project led by Catherine Barron in the South East - a creative, deep-mapping process of the social and cultural layers.

Can't make it? No Problem

You will still be able to participate in the project moving forward.
