In this workshop, participants will learn how to create bioyarn combined with cyanotype, which will then be crocheted and exposed to light. Bioyarn cyanotype is an extension of my ongoing research into biomaterials and photography, exploring new ways of creating tactile, living photographic objects through sustainable materials and experimental processes.
Participants will produce their own unique bioyarn cyanotype piece while learning about the creative possibilities of biomaterials within photography. The workshop encourages playful experimentation and hands-on making, offering an opportunity to engage with photography beyond traditional print processes. Participants will create a temporal photographic object designed to be composted at home. The workshop invites discussion around impermanence in photography, challenging traditional archival approaches and instead considering photographic works that are intended to decay over time.
Attendees will be introduced to the fundamentals of biomaterials, explore how they can be applied within image-making, and learn learn simple approaches to composting biomaterials at home.
Please note: a basic level of crochet knowledge is encouraged for this workshop, but beginners welcome!
