AUGUST SLIPWARE
Slipware is back at Birdsmouth.
In this one day workshop you will spend the day investigating the art of using coloured liquid clays to decorate ceramics- synonymous with rural folk pottery and historic craft traditions. We will look at a range of historical examples, from medieval to Victorian and contemporary British pottery, French, Japanese , American and Eastern European ceramics. Using the traditional teracotta earthenware clay we will demonstrate and practice all of the different techniques of scrafitto (scratching through slip to reveal dark clay behind), marbling, pouring , trailing and feathering. You will create a collection of flat forms- plates tiles and shallow bowls that will be fired and glazed in the classic Honey glaze by Birdsmouth studio, to collect a few weeks later.
Sunday 9th August 12.30-3.30 with an optional break to eat at 1.30. Tea and refreshments provided but bring lunch, or you can pop out to grab something.
Birdsmouth studio is at 5 Birdsmouth court, London N15 4FW, which is on Lawrence road. No experience necessary. Ground floor accessible, do contact for specific accessibility needs.
