Learn the bird sounds of woods and parkland

In these half-day outdoor workshops, we explore how to identify common resident and migratory birds on the nature-rich edge of Brighton.

Each ‘walkshop’ includes:

  • Before the day, access to step-by-step audio lessons on how to identify five key woodland species by sound
  • A gentle 2.5-hour walk around the woodland and downland edge at Stanmer Park
  • Potential species encountered will include Firecrest, Corn Bunting, Linnet, Whitethroat, Grey Wagtail, Goldcrest, Mistle Thrush, Nuthatch, Skylark, Green Woodpecker, Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, Stock Dove, common finches, crows & tits, Chiffchaff and Blackcap.
  • Tea, coffee and cake, and a sit-down Q&A session at The One Garden to end the morning
  • Easy access by bus, rail, bike or car
  • Small group size (maximum 10 participants)
  • Starts 9.15am, finishes 12.45pm
  • 10% of ticket revenue will go to a local wildlife conservation project

This workshop is led by Charlie Peverett.

ROUTE: The route for the walk includes an ascent of the downland from Stanmer Village, but it will be taken slowly. Walking boots are recommended.

WEATHER: The walk will go ahead unless there is a weather warning for rain or wind in place, in which case you will be notified on the previous day at the latest. In this case tickets will be transferrable to alternative dates.

COVID: The walk will be undertaken within current guidelines for COVID-safe participation in groups. If you test positive on the day of the walk your ticket can be transferred to a future date.

CHILDREN: Accompanied children 10+ are welcome to attend, but dogs need to be left at home for this one.
