Learn the spring bird sounds of woods and parkland

In this early morning outdoor workshop, we will explore how to identify common and local resident and early spring birds on the nature-rich edge of Brighton.

Each ‘walkshop’ includes:

  • Before the day, access to step-by-step audio lessons on how to identify five key woodland species by sound
  • A gentle 2.5-hour walk around the woodland and downland edge at Stanmer Park
  • Potential species encountered will include Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Common Whitethroat, Firecrest, Corn Bunting, Grey Wagtail, Raven, Buzzard, Goldcrest, Mistle and Song Thrush, Nuthatch, Skylark, Green & Great Spotted Woodpecker, Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, Stock Dove, common finches, crows & tits.
  • A sit-down Q&A session at The One Garden to end the morning (refreshments optional)
  • Easy access by bus, rail, bike or car
  • Small group size (maximum 12 participants)
  • Starts 7.15am, finishes 10.45am

This workshop is led by Charlie Peverett.

ROUTE: The route for the walk may include an ascent of the downland from Stanmer Village, but it will be taken slowly. Walking boots are recommended.

WEATHER: The walk will go ahead unless there is a weather warning for rain or wind in place, in which case you will be notified on the previous day at the latest. In this case tickets will be transferrable to alternative dates.

CHILDREN: Accompanied children 10+ are welcome to attend, but dogs need to be left at home for this one.
