Description
Soul-affirming music in a beautiful setting! Birmingham Choral Union is delighted to return to Birmingham Jewellery Quarter's lovely Georgian church of St Paul's with a programme of joyful choral music. One of Birmingham’s oldest established choirs, conducted by Colin Baines, we will be joined by professional soloists Abigail Kelly and Barbara Hogg, and accompanied by Sonare chamber orchestra and Darren Hogg on the organ. The main item in the programme is Handel’s Dixit Dominus - written in Rome when Handel was just 22. Two British composers complete the programme; Gustav Holst’s exciting setting of Two Psalms, one of which derives from the well known hymn All Creatures of our God and King, and a beautifully reflective setting of Ave Maris Stella (Hail, Star of the Sea) by Cecilia McDowall, who was born in Edinburgh in 1951.
Light refreshments will be served in the interval (donation)
