Join BIYA BIYA for a new art workshop offering–Photo Embroidery with Yasmeen Khayr!
This 2-hour workshop will teach participants the basics of embroidery into physical photos as an adornment and meditative practice. All skill levels are welcome and all materials will be provided for use in session. We HIGHLY encourage participants to bring their own photos that are personally meaningful. Please only bring photos you are comfortable embroidering, poking, and changing. If you do not have a photo, we will have photos available to embroider.
We will use this time together to adorn our photos, embroider meditatively, and share our photos and stories attached to them. We hope this space will be one of communal art-making, practicing mindfulness, and honoring of past memories, places, and people.
MEET THE FACILITATOR:
Yasmeen Khayr (she/her) is a Lebanese, Muslim artist based in Rogers Park. She loves the use of art as a release of creative energy and exploring the particular ways in which art can facilitate emotional processing and expression. She is inspired by the power of communal art making and practicing imagining and building new worlds through artmaking. Yasmeen plays with linoleum block printing, embroidery, painting, and mixed media, and is always down for trying new art mediums. Yasmeen is also currently pursuing a degree in art therapy!
OUTDOOR ACCESSIBILITY NOTES:
Exact coordinates will be shared the day before the outdoor program. We will be gathered on a grassy area with blankets and limited low-seated beach chairs. Feel free to bring what will support your comfort.
Participants are welcome as early as 11:45pm to grab snacks and mingle with fellow art-makers. The workshop will begin promptly at 12pm.
In the event of rain, the program will meet at a studio in Avondale.
