Talgarth Talks: Bill McGuire
Talgarth Talks: Bill McGuire
How can we adapt to a world with ever more extreme weather, and what can we do to stop a bleak situation deteriorating even further? Climate activist and author of Hothouse Earth: An Inhabitant’s Guide, Bill McGuire, joins us to share what we can expect in decades to come and what we can do to prevent further climate breakdown.
About Bill McGuire
Bill McGuire is an academic, activist, broadcaster, science and speculative fiction writer and is currently Professor Emeritus of Geophysical and Climate Hazards at University College London. He has published many best-selling books including his latest, Hothouse Earth: An Inhabitant's Guide which provides a post-COP26 perspective on the climate emergency, acknowledging that it is now practically impossible to keep this side of the 1.5°C dangerous climate change guardrail.
As one of the UK’s leading Volcanologists, Bill McGuire was a Senior Scientist at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory and in 2010 a member of the Science Advisory Group in Emergencies (SAGE) addressing the Icelandic volcanic ash problem. He was also a member of the UK Government Natural Hazard Working Group established in January 2005, in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami.
