Learn to Grow Your Own Edible Mushrooms

Monday 20th July, 11.30am - 2.30pm

It’s said that part of the human body is precisely shaped to receive edible mushrooms, suggesting that we have evolved to eat them. Their nutritional value has only grown in recent years through the popularity of such varieties as lion’s mane and reishi. Join Sam, an experienced cultivator, to learn how we can grow fungi for ourselves.

Your tutor 

Sam is an experienced mushroom cultivator, growing many varieties of edible and functional fungi. He began his career in jewellery, working in CAD design and production for a decade before studying agroecology at Black Mountains College and training across the landwork sector.

Travel: Parking on-site and in lane outside main gates. Trefforest train station is a ten-minute walk away. Stagecoach bus service 100 stops outside Trefforest train station

Practical Info

Open to: All welcome.  Children under 16 must be accompanied by adults at all times.

What to bring: Packed lunch, notepad & pen, clothes for the weather, e.g. waterproofs, umbrella, sturdy shoes, hat, suncream

Accessibility: Meadow Street Community Garden is on flat ground, being a mix of woodchip and stone dust paths. The majority of these are accessible for prams and wheelchairs. There is also an accessible toilet and running water.
