Join us in Blackpool for a focused exploration of local inequalities in care, featuring two presentations from researchers working closely with Blackpool Council, communities, and partners. This session brings together evidence, emerging insights, and practical perspectives on how inequalities shape people’s experiences across the life course, from end of life care to early entry into long term care.
Maddy French (Lancaster University) will present findings from her work on inequalities in end of life care in Blackpool. Her research examines the relationships between social deprivation and access to hospice care, exploring delivery of services integrated across multiple NHS settings.
Andy Harding and colleagues from both Blackpool Council and Lancaster University will introduce a new study exploring the drivers of entry into long term care facilities and understanding what happens to people upon entry. They will outline the aims of the project, the mixed methods approach being developed, and how council data, community insight, and VCFSE knowledge will shape the work.
What the session will cover:
- Inequalities in access to, and experiences of, end of life care
- Early entry into long term care: emerging research questions and planned study design
- Using data from Blackpool Council and VCFSE organisations within mixed methods research
- How applied research can generate practical, system relevant insights
