Walking Tour of Black Broadway
Step into the rich history of Washington, DC’s “Black Broadway” with a guided walking tour through the Greater U Street neighborhood, led by Black Broadway Travel.
During this approximately 2-hour tour, attendees will:
- View one-of-a-kind murals featuring notable Black history makers, including Duke Ellington, Harriet Tubman, Barack Obama, and more.
- Learn about the jazz and cultural renaissance that helped shape generations of Black musicians, artists, activists, and leaders.
- Explore U Street’s vibrant Black-owned businesses and iconic landmarks, including the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum.
- Discover historic entertainment venues such as the Howard Theatre and Lincoln Theatre, which hosted legendary artists including Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong.
Following the tour, attendees who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color are invited to continue the conversation at a BIPOC Happy Hour at Busboys and Poets, sponsored by B Lab.
Attendees who do not identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color and would like to gather after the tour are invited to join us at Urban Garden Brewing, DC’s first Black woman-owned brewery. A table will be reserved for the group. Please note that BLD will not provide food or beverages at this location, so attendees will be responsible for their own purchases.
