Adventure Week is a fun, mixed-level sailing week for young sailors who want a more relaxed, adventurous experience on the water.

It is designed for sailors of different ages and levels to sail together, build confidence, enjoy time with friends, and take part in a variety of on-the-water activities.

How Booking Works

  1. Complete your registration on this page.
  2. An invoice will be issued within a few days.
  3. You may then make stage payments against that invoice.

This invoice-based booking option will remain open to members until mid-April.

After mid-April, bookings will move to pay-in-full by credit card at the time of booking.

Any eligible discounts for:

  • members
  • family members
  • sailors using their own boat
  • Shore Parent support

will be applied through the invoicing process where relevant.

Why Join Adventure Week?

Adventure Week is ideal for sailors who want to:

  • sail with friends, even if they are at different levels
  • enjoy a week that is less formal than a standard training course
  • build confidence through practical sailing
  • experience group sailing, lake trips, and adventure-based activities
  • meet other young sailors and enjoy time on the water in a relaxed, social setting

This week focuses more on fun, experience, and confidence-building than on structured classroom-style learning.

What to Expect

Participants can expect:

  • a full week of on-the-water activity
  • mixed-level group sailing
  • adventure-focused sessions
  • practical skill development through experience
  • a supportive and social environment
  • less theory and a more relaxed structure than traditional courses

Safety remains central at all times, with activities adapted appropriately across age and ability levels.

Safety and Logistics

  • At the end of the day, a dry robe or similar warm clothing is recommended.
  • Parents/guardians must provide all food and drinks for the day.

Weather Policy
Sailing is weather-dependent and courses run according to prevailing conditions. Sessions will not be rescheduled due to bad weather.

Certification
Certificates, where awarded, are based on skills demonstrated, not attendance alone. Sailors are also encouraged to sail outside formal course time and keep a logbook to track their development.

Wednesday Evening Club Sailing
Junior Summer Programme participants from Level 1 to Level 4 are welcome to attend Wednesday Evening Members Club Sailing during their course, under parental supervision. Parents must remain onsite, as safety cover is provided on the water only and there are no instructors on shore.

Booking and Refunds

  • Refunds will only be issued in line with the cancellation policy.
  • A separate booking is required for:

    • each child
    • each course booked

Blessington Lakes Sailing Club reserves the right to cancel a course due to insufficient numbers. In this case, a full refund will be issued.

Course Fees

The 2026 course fee is €285 per 1-week course.

There is no separate boat hire charge.

Membership and Club Activities

To get the most from the sailing programme, sailors are encouraged to join in regular club sailing activities, especially on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, from early in the season. These sessions provide valuable extra time on the water and help sailors build confidence and competence.

For non-members who wish to continue sailing beyond their course, Cadet Membership is available.

Shore Parent Guide

Being a Shore Parent is a voluntary role and a helpful way to support the smooth running of the junior programme while remaining onsite during camp.

It is a light-support role only. It is not an instructional, coaching, or first aid role.

Shore Parent Responsibilities

A Shore Parent may be asked to:

  • be a supportive adult presence onsite in case of emergency
  • help keep shared areas tidy after breaks and lunch
  • help maintain order in the clubhouse while sailors are on the water
  • reassure or assist a child who feels cold, nervous, or unwell, for example by helping them get warm and settled

All instructors are fully qualified and remain responsible for instruction, first aid, and operational supervision.

Clubhouse Access

Shore Parents should not be in the clubhouse while sailors are inside, except:

  • during lunch breaks when helping out, or
  • when asked to do so by an instructor

Arrival and Check-In

On arrival, please report to the Senior Instructor or designated Shore Co-ordinator for that week.

Shore Parent Time Slots

Morning Slot: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Afternoon Slot: 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Please wear the high-visibility vest provided.

Important Notes

  • A Shore Parent roster will be organised closer to the start of the course.
  • Full details will be shared with participating families in advance.
  • Instructors remain responsible for all major duties and supervision.
  • This is a voluntary role, but it is very helpful to the club.
  • Where a parent can commit to Shore Parent duties, a discount may be applied to course fees.

What’s in It for You

  • a chance to see your child’s progress
  • some quiet time in a lovely lakeside setting
  • an opportunity to support the club community in a practical way

Please note that there is no office or desk space available in the clubhouse.

Thank you for your support. It makes a real difference to the running of the programme.

For any questions, please contact the Senior Instructor or Shore Co-ordinator.
