Organic Disease Management Workshop
Wed Feb 7, 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center, 28607
Description
Join Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture, Watauga County Agricultural Extension, and Opossum Bottom Farm for a workshop on organic disease management!
Disease pressure is a serious concern for farmers in the southern Appalachians, particularly in regard to high-dollar crops like tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, and others. Managing disease with organic sprays and preventative practices can be complex, and identifying diseases and finding the right methods to treat and prevent them can be time consuming. Richard Boylan of Watauga County Agricultural Extension will cover common diseases, organic treatments, and best practices for disease prevention. Chris Thies, owner and operator of Opossum Bottom Farm, will present on his methods for preventing and treating disease. As a farmer who grows more than 100 varieties of tomatoes each summer and dozens of other crops throughout the year, disease prevention is on the forefront of his mind!
What to bring: any snacks or drinks you'd like to have during the event (feel free to bring dinner!), notetaking supplies, and your questions!
