About Transition Blue Ridge: Beginning in late 2017, Transition Blue Ridge began as Climate Voices US, a Boone-based nonprofit concerned with raising climate awareness and empowering communities to build renewable energy futures. Transition represents an opportunity to reimagine our world and seek better ways of living using a participatory approach that can be practiced by community members in their everyday lives. It is a movement perpetuated by people who are excited to step up and address the biggest challenge of our era - climate change - by starting local. We seek to promote and support the transition of communities in Western NC and Southern Appalachia towards resilience, diversity & inclusiveness, sustainability, and a regenerative, just economy in an era of global climate destabilization.
About MountainTrue: MountainTrue is a community-powered nonprofit working across the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains to protect our forests, safeguard clean water, and build healthier communities. From river cleanups to local policy advocacy, we make it easy for you to make a difference — right where you live. We envision the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains as thriving communities that are connected to and help sustain a healthy natural environment. To achieve this, MountainTrue will foster and empower advocates throughout the region to engage in policy and project advocacy, outreach and education, and on-the-ground projects.
About Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture: Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture helps build an equitable, sustainable High Country local food system by supporting producers and cultivating community connections that educate, inspire, and increase the demand for local food. This workshop is part of BRWIA's 2024 CRAFT Summer Workshop Series. Blue Ridge Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) cultivates meaningful mentor relationships between aspiring and experienced farmers. We believe that the educational and professional development of tomorrow’s growers and producers informs the health of our diverse local-food system and rural economy. Check out our other workshops and events for producers at brwia.org/craft.
