The Pirates of Penzance

by WS Gilbert & Sir Arthur Sullivan & Essgee Ent. (adapted by EssGee Entertainment)

The 'Australian Version' of The Pirates of Penzance brings a fresh, fast-paced energy to Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic comic operetta. The story follows Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates, who dreams of leaving piracy behind and finding true love with Mabel, the daughter of the eccentric Major-General Stanley. However, a bizarre twist involving Frederic’s leap year birthday threatens to derail his plans.

Blending Gilbert and Sullivan’s timeless score with contemporary humour, updated dialogue, and larger-than-life comedy, the EssGee adaptation delivers a lively and accessible take on the much-loved operetta while retaining its memorable characters and iconic songs.
