"Educating Rita" is a stage play written by Willy Russell in 1980. It tells the story of Rita, a working-class hairdresser in her twenties, who decides to go back to college and get an education. She is assigned an older, disillusioned tutor named Frank, who has grown tired of teaching the same material to privileged students. Rita's enthusiasm and curiosity reinvigorate Frank and the two form an unlikely friendship. The play explores themes of class, education, and the search for personal identity. It was a success in London's West End, winning the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, and later adapted into a successful film in 1983, directed by Lewis Gilbert, starred Julie Walters and Michael Caine
