ABOUT YOUR MENTOR:

Molly Ashby was born in Pensacola, Fl where her father was an instructor in the US Navy's fighter pilot school.  They relocated to San Diego as her father flew out of the VF 114 squadron aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Kitty Hawk.   He was killed in Vietnam.  Her education began as UCSB where she played Division-1 tennis before a meaningful transfer to the College of William and Mary - the alma mater of her late father - where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and later served as the College's investment committee Chair and now as an emeritus member of the foundation.  She then earned a Masters in African Studies and received the Dean's Award for Academic Distinction from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service.  As part of this program, she interned at the Department of State in Mali, West Africa and credits this experience with shaping her world view on society, investing, and Solera values.

Molly then served as Investor, Investment Strategist, and COO at J.P. Morgan Private Equity from 1983 until forming Solera Capital in 1999.  She was Vice Chair of the firm's investment committee.  J.P. Morgan Capital produced approximately $350 million per year in earnings, with a portfolio book value in excess of $1 Billion.  While at J.P. Morgan, she honed a research intensive, analytic and creative approach toward investing that forms the basis of Solera's strategy.  Her notable investments during this period include the first Hospital Corp. of America LBO (HCA), textile and paper company LBOs, biotech early leader, Centocor (acquired by J&J), early Artificial Intelligence at Inference, and Genomics pioneer Acacia (sold to Merck), as well as Genomics/Ag pioneer Taxon Biosciences (sold to Dupont), The Little Clinic (sold to Kroger NYSE: KR), Annie's Homegrown (IPO, NYSE: BNNY, sold to General Mills), Latina, The Latin Kitchen, heritage equestrian brand Bevel Saddlery, heritage fashion brand Calypso and newly launched surf platform, Ansea.
