• Talks on local botany and other topics of interest on Tuesday and Wednesday evening
• The BSBI Wales AGM on Wednesday morning
• Display of books for sale: Acanthophyllum Books will be bringing a selection of second-hand books for sale. There will also be a table for members to bring their own books for sale/donation
• Exhibits and posters prepared by members
• Help table: you are invited to bring specimens that you would like experts to identify
The draft programme includes a range of field visits to reflect this diverse and spectacular part of North Wales. Preliminary plans include RSPB Conwy nature reserve, a coastal reserve formed from the excavation for the A55 and boasts a range of salt marsh and wetland habitats, and Bryn Euryn SSSI a prominent limestone hill overlooking Rhos-on-Sea. It has a rich mixture of limestone grassland and woodland. Another local attraction is Bodnant Gardens, created over 150 years, with plants collected from far afield, it houses a number of National Collections and boasts Wales’s largest collection of UK Champion Trees together with extensive areas of semi-natural woodland and meadows. Pensarn SSSI and/or Kinmel Dunes nature reserve have an extensive range of shingle, dune and coastal species, whilst the upland right-to-roam Pen yr Orsedd, part of Mynydd Hiraethog SSSI, is a wetland acid bog comprising a typical flora.
Exhibition
An important part of the meeting will be the exhibition of posters prepared by members and we are encouraging as many people as possible to contribute. This is a great way to communicate your observations and stimulate discussion. Any material that will be of interest to other members is welcome - don't worry about producing a highly-polished, scientific poster! Please indicate on the booking form the amount of space you need for your exhibit and whether you need a table or vertical space.
