Botany and ecology of lowland raised bogs
The Botanical Skills Northern Ireland Project will be facilitating a training event with Mel Flexen on the botany and ecology of lowland raised bogs at Peatlands Park from 10:00am to 4:30pm on Wednesday 5th November. We may finish earlier depending on the weather.
There will be a short indoor session (1 hour+) in the morning giving an introduction to bog habitats and key plant species. This will include basic identification of Sphagnum species and other peatland bryophytes. The rest of the day will be field-based at Peatlands Park, looking at the bryophytes and vascular plants found on the active bog and associated habitats.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the indoor session.
Please bring your own packed lunch and a travel mug to fill with warm drinks before our outdoor session.
Please ensure that you:
- Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring waterproof wellington boots as we will walk across mixed and boggy terrain which could at times be rough, uneven and very wet.
- Have weatherproof clothing with you to ensure you stay comfortable and protected from the elements.
- Bring along drinking water and a packed lunch.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!
