Irish Events: Mullaghanattin, Iveragh Peninsula, Co. Kerry
This will be a long and tough mountain day exploring steep north-facing crags on Mullaghanattin, in the heart of the mountains of the Iveragh Peninsula. Species seen recently on this mountain include Polystichum lonchitis (Holly Fern), Asplenium viride (Green Spleenwort), Salix herbacea (Dwarf Willow) and Oxyria digyna (Mountain Sorrel), with older records of Saussurea alpina (Alpine Saw-wort) and Saxifraga rosacea (Irish Saxifrage) in need of refinding, as well as an intriguing record of Salix myrsinifolia (Dark-leaved Willow), which has not been seen recently in the southern half of Ireland. A rich variety of specialist montane and oceanic bryophytes are also likely to be encountered, but this will not be the main focus of the meeting. In the event of poor weather conditions, an alternative lowland venue will be found in the Glencar area.
Numbers will be limited so advance booking is essential.
