Beginner Botany Walk - Stevenage
This is event is part of a suite of events, offered by BSBI members as part of the 100 Plants in 2026 Challenge. Participants will have the opportunity to meet other botanists, and learn some common plants, while taking an informal beginner-focused walk.
These are events are open to any beginner botanists; you do not need to be taking part in the 100 Plants Challenge to attend.
Led by: Chantal Helm
Description: A gentle stroll to the grassland and woodlands to the south of the lake. Bring any field ID books you have and a hand lens if you have one, though I will have spares to loan out.
Meeting point: Stevenage Fairlands Valley Park, Six Hills Way carpark SG2 8UY. I'll be standing on the grass between the lake and car park with a collection of plants in hand.
Contingency plan (in case of bad weather): The event will proceed as planned regardless of weather, so bring along appropriate clothing.
Expected terrain: Largely level, woodland paths and surfaced tracks much of the route.
Expected required fitness level: This will be a gentle stroll and we will be taking our time to look at plants, so it will be quite slow going, so suitable for all fitness levels.
