Aquatic Plants on the River Barrow, Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny

This event is part of the Targeted Aquatic Plants Project funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to enhance recording, monitoring and conservation of rare and priority aquatic plant species in Ireland.

Description: We will be exploring along the River Barrow at Tinnahinch, Graiguenamanagh and exploring the aquatic species there. It is likely we will see some Pondweeds such as Potamogeton friesii (Flat-stalked Pondweed) as well as several Duckweeds, Lemna and some examples of Water Fern, Azolla filiculoides.

This will be a great introduction to aquatic plants for those who are getting started in aquatics.

Bring: Packed lunch, comfortable walking shoes or boots. Hand lens, id guides and grapnel hook if you have them (but they are not necessary).

We will park on the roadside before the bridge on the Co Carlow side. There are public toilets available at the Graiguenamanagh Boathouse (about 5 minutes walk from the parking).

Contingency plan (in case of bad weather): In the event of bad weather, we will postpone and rearrange to another date. Please keep a close eye on your email or provide a phone number to the host to avoid disappointment.

Expected terrain: Flat terrain, riverside walk.
