Targeted Aquatic Plant Project: Durnesh Lough, Co Donegal

This event is part of the Targeted Aquatic Plants Project funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to enhance recording, monitoring and conservation of rare and priority aquatic plant species in Ireland. All levels of experience are welcome to participate on the day. The day will be led by aquatic expert, Nick Stewart.

Description: We will be exploring Durnesh Lough with the specific aim of finding Bearded Stoneworts, (Chara canescens). We will also be identifying and recording all other aquatic species we find on the day.

Bring: Packed lunch, wellies or comfortable walking shoes. Hand lens, grapnel and id guides if you have them (but they are not necessary).

Meeting point: Exact location will be provided before the day.

Contingency plan (in case of bad weather): In the event of bad weather, we will postpone and rearrange to another date. Please keep a close eye on your email or provide a phone number to the host to avoid disappointment.

Expected terrain: Uneven and marshy ground, lakeside.

Biosecurity

It is very important that botanists working in freshwater environments do not spread invasive species or pathogens including crayfish plague. Please make sure your boots and any equipment are completely clean and dry before the field day. If we visit more than one site we will have disinfectant available; wellies are recommended as they are easier to clean than other shoes!
