Botanical Skills NI: NPMS Habitat Training at Drumnaph Nature Reserve
Join the Botanical Skills Northern Ireland Project for a training event for the National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS) volunteers on NPMS habitat identification at the Drumnaph Nature Reserve and Drumnaph Woods.
The morning will include a short indoor session looking at indicator species for NPMS habitats and then the rest of the morning will be spent exploring the numerous different habitats on the Drumnaph Nature Reserve. In the afternoon we will explore the habitats in the neighbouring Drumnaph Woods.
The habitats we will focus on include lowland grassland, broad-leaved woodland, freshwater, fen, bog and heathland and hedgerows.
This event is suitable for beginner botanists and learners. Please note that the terrain includes some uneven narrow slightly steep paths in woodland areas and also narrow paths in more open grassland and heathland areas.
What to bring: Please always come prepared with suitable outdoor clothing and comfortable walking footwear, as we will be spending time outside in varying weather conditions. If there is any compulsory kit required to attend it will be detailed here, otherwise more details of recommended equipment may be included in your booking confirmation or details provided nearer the event.
