Botanical Skills NI: Key to Irish hawkweeds (Hieracium)

Wed 11 Nov 2026 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM GMT Online, Zoom

Join us online for a Botanical Skills Northern Ireland Project talk with Dr Tim Rich, a renowned botanist specialising in critical groups such as whitebeams, hawkweeds, and crucifers, who has recently retired to spend even more time with plants.

Following the publication of the new key to Irish hawkweeds (Hieracium) which was funded by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, this session introduces the key alongside its associated identification spreadsheet. Dr Rich will demonstrate how to navigate these practical tools, which bring together essential data, taxonomic notes, photographs, illustrations, and distribution maps for all 73 species into one accessible guide. (To request a free PDF copy of the key prior to the talk, please email tim_rich@sky.com).
