This meeting aims to consolidate training in identifying grasses, sedges and rushes, as introduced in BSBI workshops. This is a joint meeting with the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland, National Trust for Scotland & Perthshire Society of Natural Sciences and is open to all their members and anyone else interested. After some revision we will split into those who would like to go up high and those who would prefer to stay on lower ground. Those wishing to go high should note that the ascent and descent will require a reasonable level of fitness and we’ll encounter some steep ground. The aim is to look at sedges, rushes and grasses on high ground and not necessarily to get to the summit and any ascent will be weather permitting.
Dan Watson (NTS Ben Lawers) and Faith Anstey and other BSBI members will lead the day.
Places are limited and booking is essential.
Further Information
The meeting point is the main Ben Lawers car park (£3 except to NTS / NT members) so car sharing is encouraged.
You will need walking boots, warm, waterproof and windproof clothing, packed lunch and drink. Please also remember to bring your fully charged mobile phone, a hand lens and any course booklets you were given on the workshops.
We will send you a full list of what to bring plus detailed joining instructions nearer the time.
BSBI Sedges, Rushes & Grasses workshops in 2020
This field day should have followed on from two Identifying Sedges & Rushes Workshops in Dumfries and Kinross; and two Identifying Grasses workshops in Hamilton and Dunkeld respectively. But they all had to be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.
Cancellation Policy
This is a free event with a strict limit on the numbers attending, so please let us know as soon as you can if you find you are unable to make the day, as that might allow another to take your place.
