***You can book right up until the start of the event***
This is the second year of the BSBI Irish Grasslands Project which aims to increase recording and knowledge of grassland plant species across Ireland. Join grassland plant expert and ecologist Dr Fionnuala O'Neill for this webinar on grass identification:-
Meadow-grasses (Poa) and Bents (Agrostis) are two of the more difficult grass families to get to grips with. If you have a good basic knowledge of grass ID but have yet to get to grips fully with Meadow-grasses and Bents then this online workshop is for you. (However if you are a complete beginner on grass ID you might struggle with this webinar but you can find other grass ID webinars on the BSBI's YouTube Training playlist that might suit you better.) Everyone interested in Ireland & Britain is very welcome!
This free event and the Irish Grasslands Project has been kindly funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). This event will be held via Zoom. You will be sent a link via email when you register.
Programme (timings indicative)
10.00 Welcome, introduction & revision of the structure of grasses
10.05 Meadow-grasses
10.25 Break
10.30 Bents
10.55 Questions & Answers
11.00 Thanks & Close
Fionnuala writes "The webinar will concentrate on the characteristics of the most common species, mentioning the rarer ones as well but with much less emphasis, as the probability of encountering them is relatively low. Where it helps with ID and as we are so late in the field season, I will point out characteristics of the flowering heads when they are gone over".
BSBI Irish Grasslands Project
We plan to record the webinar and make it available online along with previous training webinars on grassland plant identification on the BSBI Irish Grasslands Project page. The page also has details of field meetings which would be a great chance to put into practice your new-found knowledge into practice!
