The Annual Summer Meeting (ASM) is the big field meeting of the year for the whole of the BSBI. It is open to everyone – you don’t have to be a BSBI member or an experienced botanist.
The BSBI will be returning to FSC Malham Tarn for the 2022 Annual Summer Meeting, which will run from Friday 15th July 15 to Monday 18th July. More details of the programme are available towards the foot of this page.
Those booking are able to register for either the whole conference, or to choose their attendance across the days by selecting the individual parts they would like to attend. The accommodation rate includes accommodation, breakfast, DIY packed lunch and dinner per person, with most rooms en suite or with a bathroom close by. There are numerous other hotels, B&Bs and campsites in the area if you would prefer to arrange your own accommodation.

Programme
Full details will be sent to all registered attendees ahead of the meeting.
Malham Tarn has a reputation as a hotspot of botanical interest and we hope to see many of its specialities. The surrounding area varies from acid moorland to limestone grassland and is often much less well explored. The ASM will visit some of these less well-known sites in addition to Malham Tarn itself. We may also visit a couple of sites where there are Project LORE species to be found. There will be something for all members and all botanical skill levels; the ASM is a social occasion as well as a botanical meeting.
On Friday the meeting will open with a local walk and an after-dinner talk to set the scene. On Saturday and Sunday we will visit sites or areas to suit the group. Where necessary we will car-share, with drivers reimbursed their petrol costs. The cost of this transport is included in the registration fee.

Dependent on participant numbers, we can be flexible in what we do. Some participants may simply wish to visit sites, others may want to record sites or monads or you may enjoy the challenge of a hunt for Project LORE species. Details of levels of recording in local monads, tetrads and hectads are available ahead of time by emailing the organiser, as well as details of potential sites for excursions.
The meeting is organised by Jonathan Shanklin, Honorary Field Meetings Secretary.
