Preston Montford has been the traditional home for BSBI Recorders’ and Training meetings, with the last one taking place in October 2018. We return at fairly short notice for a reunion of recorders, some workshops and training sessions. The programme is deliberately flexible in order to accommodate any weather window that will allow a group visit to a local site or sites. The workshops and talks will be given by participants, with speakers likely to include Ian Denholm, Chris Metherell, Fred Rumsey and Jonathan Shanklin.

The 2022 Recorders’ Meeting is based at the Field Studies Council Preston Montford Centre near Shrewsbury. The meeting is primarily aimed at existing or potential County Recorders, though anyone who records plants for the BSBI will benefit from attendance. It is intended that workshops will include plant ID sessions, practical MapMate and DDb work, talks and a group discussion. The timing is leisurely and may change at short notice in order to accommodate a weather window for a group excursion. In order to ensure that everyone (including speakers) can attend all the sessions we do not intend to run parallel sessions, but may broadcast each session to another classroom.

Preston Montford offers the standard FSC centre accommodation, with breakfast, DIY packed lunch and an evening meal. The centre is licensed. Most rooms are single en-suite, and there are some for multiple occupancy. Non-residents are welcome to join the group during the day and/or for meals. Participants are welcome to suggest topics for workshops etc, and should be prepared to give them if appropriate.

Travel

With global warming and the high cost of fuel, you may be considering either car-sharing or travelling by public transport to this event. If you book before 20th October and tick the 'share contact details' box on the booking form, we'll circulate a list on 21st October to all of you who opted into sharing, so you can make arrangements to travel together.

Tickets

The daily rate at FSC Preston Montford is £70 for single accommodation, breakfast, DIY packed lunch and dinner per person. If you are sharing accommodation the rate is £60 per person. If you are non-resident and would like lunch and dinner the rate is £15 per day. You do not have to stay the whole weekend, though priority for rooms will be given to those who are.

You will be able to choose your tickets when you click the 'Buy Tickets' link, but for example:
For one person staying all the long weekend, the full residential cost including registration is £170 (£30+£70x2), for two people sharing a room the total cost is £300 (£30x2+£60x4). For non-residents wanting lunch and dinner only, the total cost including registration is £60 (£30+£15x2) per person..
